Help with my PSP screen?

I just purchased a PSP 3000 (the bundle with Rachet and Clank) on friday. How durable is the screen? Do I need to get a protector on it right away, or can it take a beating, like the iPod screens can?

And lol @ the people who were irritated by the scanlines. They make FF Tactics look epic during spells.
