I know i already posted a question up here about this but,

I have a 00 crown victoria 4.6 L , intake manifold is crackked, its plastic. Ford wont do the recall.
I found the part at summit for 196$ shipped. I am a street mechanic. I am going to attempt to do it myself.
PLEASE answer the following questions>>>>
1. The taxi shop in my area said they will do it for 125$. I have to get the part though. Is it worth it? Cause im bringing him the part what if it has to be removed or done over, i still have to pay for labor , its no guranateed when you bring a mechanic a part. BUt these guys do crown vics so they are experinced. WHAT should i do?
2. Also the guy siad he will torque it but he wont use the torque wrench , he will do it by feel with the regualr ratchet. is that ok , will it be good enough. What if he torques it too much and cracks it? What do you guys think about that one?
3. IF I DO THE JOB NOW MYSELF, i don have a torque wrench, what if i follow the rule where it is ...finger tighten all bolts, then 1 complete ratchet turn, then one half , then 1 quarter....WILL that be good enough torqued with the regualr ratchet that i have . I wont be using a torque wrench then. IS IT STILL GOOD?
3. DO I APPLY RED RTV SEALENT on the block and both sides of the gasket and put the intake on? OR do i just use the gasket without the silcone. IS THAT a special self sealing gasket on the new intake that you DONT need silicon? SOME PEOPLE TOLD ME THAT?

ANYONE FAMILIAR WITH THE 4.6 L motor???

THANKS AND PLEASEEEEEEEEEE ADRESS ALL QUESTIONS!!!

I always love multi-part questions. Don't have the Taxi shop do it. If they realize it needs to be torqued but won't use a torque wrench they are idiots. If they crack it they will try to say it was defective. Get yourself a shop manual and follow the instructions and torquing instructions.

1. You said you're doing it yourself.
2. You said you're doing it yourself.
3. Your measurements have no bearing whatsoever. What is 1 quarter turn? If it's a loose bolt, that's nothing. If it's tight, that could be too much. If it's stripped, then it could be anywhere in the middle. No way to answer that, as that's no kind of standard way at all to do it.
3 part 2 apparently. If you want to use sealant go ahead. When you buy it, maybe you should just ask them whether it comes with self sealing, instead of trusting these people that told you about it, but aren't actually working on your car.
