Help with Mac panther sync

Hi,
I've been trying for about a month to make some sense of my tungsten t3, which I hot-synch with an iMac G-5. However, nothing that is sent to the SD card ever appears there, although the hot-synch captions indicate that it is. Actually, very little except for appointments and such makes it to either the handheld or the card. My "send to handheld" folder always has the same things in it. I wanted to put the t3 manual on my palm pilot, but even though I opened the pdf in adobe reader, and placed it to be sent, it never appears. If I try to resend some of these things, however, I get a message that it can't be sent because an item with that name already exists there.

Is it a problem that I'm using a 10.3.1 (I think) mac panther operating system to synch with it? I've read that this can cause problems. If so, is there a solution short of getting rid of the tungsten? Any alternative devices that might read cards more easily and do better with my mac?

Is there such a thing as pam on call support?
Thanks, Mike

Do you have Acrobat Reader on your Palm? If you try to sync a document and do not have an application on the Palm to read it, it will not go. Your Hotsync log should notify you of it.

Hi,
To add a little more information --

I am using a 64 MB palm one card, which is not reading anything that is sent to it. Is this supposed to be a reliable card for a tungsten t3?

What does it mean to use FileZ to look at what I'm sending to my handheld? Is this something on my mac desktop or on my handheld?

Thanks so much for your help. Mike

When you say send, do you mean you are using the Send to Handheld application? I've NEVER used it.

Launch Hotsync Manager and type command-I. Choose your user and drag and drop the files you want to sync.

hello
did you try egarc's advise and did it work ?
i frequently use bluetooth from my mac and it does well this kind of work....
is your 64mb card unlocked ? it may happen to have it locked and then....
last : are you sure the sd card (or handled memory) isn't already full ?
by the same token, download softick card export, this app will directly show you from your mac what's on your palm:
http://www.softick.com/cardexport/

but only if loading it on the palm is possible, of course !

(here : ibookG4 + tungsten + 1G sdcard)

all the best
in your quest

Michael: There is a PalmOne On-Call support. I tried a year of it a few years ago (after my 90 warranty expired) and they were helpful for most things. The good news about it is that it's paid for and I never let them get off of the phone with me until I was sure that the situation was resolved.

I would open up "Software Update" on my Mac and download the most recent updates to the OS. It might not have anything to do with anything, but you never know. Rarely does it hurt to have the most recent OS updates.

I, too, never used the "Send To" app. on the Mac, but rather the HotSync Manager to do all my important HotSync-ing. HotSync Manager is the best.

You may want to invest in a card reader. They let you read your card as an external drive and you typically get faster speeds as you manipulate your files than doing so via HotSync.

Filez is a Palm program that lets you manipulate files on your PDA or external card. It's called a file manager. I personally use McFile, but try each one and others to see what works for you. With file managers, you can do many wonderful things, as well as many scary and dangerous things. Be not afraid, but proceed with caution.

Finally, never buy PalmOne branded cards. They're a ripoff for what you get (unless they throw in some kind of tech support for it, which it doesn't look like they did.) You can get more MB for your buck by purchasing your SD cards at a bricks-and-mortar big-box retailer (512MB SD at Costco $60) and even better deals if you're willing to venture online and trust the eSeller.

You always have a place here with us. Write back with your updated situation.

Thanks all,
This gives me a lot of things to try. Makes me feel much more hopeful about long-term success.

One quick practical suggestion, if I use hot synch manager instead of install to handheld, exactly where from and where to do I drag the things.

Time to continue with research and study and experimentation.

Thanks again, mike

Doublie-clicking .PRC and .PDB files should open HotSync Manager automatically. If it doesn't, or it opens some other program, then click on the .PRC or .PDB app. and hit Option-I to "Get Info" and choose "HotSync Manager" as the default program to open all such files.

Then a HotSync initiated from your cradle should install these items on your PDA.
Happy Syncing.

To add to POL's suggestion, if you need to sync a PDF document, JPG or Office doc, you still need to open Hotsync Manager and drag and drop them into the main window.

You don't want to change those to default to Hotsync manager, otherwise you have a problem opening them on your Mac.

I agree wholeheartedly that POL has a gift for writing.:)
