help with htc tilt 2 and tethering.?

i have the htc tilt 2. stupid phone, it freezes alot. but anyways, im going on vacation tomorrow and im bringing my laptop. were driving for 13+ hours. so i know you can tether internet from your htc, but the only time i succesfully did tether was when i had a pc with windows xp. i now have a pc with windows 7. ive tryed to tether but it wouldnt work. does anyone know what i should do. i really need internet on the car ride, its going to be sooo boring
