I'm looking for a word about people somewhere in Asia in early times (10th to 13th centuries i believe). They were outsiders or strangers to a nation, but the ruler of that nation brought them when they were very young and raised them as loyalists, maybe because the ruler couldn't trust his own people, or the outsiders' families would be unaware of whatever political stuff was happening in the nation.
I want to say it was somewhere in the Middle East or Eastern Asia, and that the word started with an "i" or "j" but I could be wrong. Sorry for being vague.
