Does it matter your about to cram a living fish in a bowl. Just got done watching a video on how they put the fish to sleep with cyanide before they capture it, the cyanide then kills the coral reefs below. Have fun supporting that.

First of all, skip this whole idea!!

Walmart and a bowl starter kit is just a recipe for disaster. Any reputable pet store would not only refuse to sell an unfiltered bowl as a home for fish but would also refuse to sell fish and tank at the same time!

I suggest you start by having a read through this:

And find an independent aquatics store or two, Walmart employees often known very very very little about correct fish care.

well first of
fish sold at walmart are ethier tropical, betta or goldfish
you shouldn't anyof these together that arent the same and betta should live in a bowl alone
tropical and goldfish NEED a bowl with a fliter to clean the water and pure any chemicals that are bad for them
Betta fish dont need a filter because they constanly go to the surface and recieve oxygen that way the water has to be at a specific temperature and fish dont need much light but they shouldnt be in complete dark
probably you should have a lamp around and turn it off and on every 1 or two hours
well good luck!

No,bad idea. Wal-mart fish are bad. Go and get a ten gallon at the pet store and a goldfish. Get a filter, light, and gravel. I f you say you don't have enough money then maybe you shouldn't own a fish. You can put it in a basement but don't forget to feed it and make sure its not to cold.

I'm going to walmart today and getting a fish. I saw they have this whole thing there where it's like a bowl, food, rocks, and like a whole starter kit. I'm going to get that, and I don't know the name of the fish, but I'm getting this black fish. I live in a basement though, is it a bad environment for the fish? I might just decide to keep it upstairs though, any tips?

Is this bowl heated and has a filter? If not the only fish that can live in this environment is goldfish and betta. If your getting any other type of fish in there and it is heated and filtered than you have to cycle the tank for at least a week. A fish tank is best in a spot out of direct sunlight. A basment is not a bad environment as long as there is some sort of light for the fish. Good luck

Stop right there! One: you cannot get a starter kit and a fish on the same day. Two: No fish should ever live in a bowl. Three: if you insist on doing this, the fish will be dead within a week!
The fish tank needs to be set up and cycled before any fish is ever put in it. Go to a book store, pet store, or your local library and get a beginner's book or two about aquarium keeping. It should tell you everything you need to know about keeping fish.
No fish can be kept in a bowl. The minimum tank size is 2.5 gallons. That is the bare minimum, bigger is always better. All tropical fish need a heater, and all tanks need a filter. You cannot keep the environment suitably clean without one.
You need to know what kind of fish you are getting. Different fish have different needs! If you are getting a Betta, it needs Betta food and gentle filtration. If you are getting Mollies, you have to get a group of them, they are schooling fish. If you want to get a goldfish, you have to have a 20-gallon tank and strong filtration, they are huge waste producers.
If you want a good experience keeping your first fish, resist being impulsive. Do your homework. Learn how to set up a proper home for the fish, and what it needs to be healthy and happy.
Where you live makes no difference, what kind of home your fish lives in is everything.
