I received a letter in the mail that stated that my financial aid for the Spring 2011 semester has been denied because I have too many credit hours without a degree. The reason for this is a change majors caused me to take classes that weren't needed for the other degree. I had to change majors due to a medical problem.
I have wrote the following letter and would love to hear some opinions on it. Also, from the letter and documentation, does it sound like I will get reinstated my financial aid?
To Whom It May Concern,
Recently, I was notified that my financial aid at ---- University was denied for the Spring 2011 semester due to the amount of credit hours that I have. I have 164 credit hours without a degree because I changed my major a few years ago.
While attending ----Community College, I began having an interest in nursing and decided that I wanted to be a Registered Nurse. I took all of the required courses needed to apply for the Nursing program, which took approximately a year and a half. I was then accepted into that program, where I remained for one semester. Thus, two years of my education was spent in nursing.
At eighteen months old, I was diagnosed with cerebral palsy which affects my right side. Cerebral palsy causes muscular impairments. I walk with a slight limp, my right hand draws up and I am weak on the right side. Growing up, my parents taught me that I could do what I put my mind to and I really thought that I could become a nurse. Throughout my semester in the program, I found many obstacles that I could not overcome due to my health condition. I realized through my battles that unfortunately, I could not become a nurse. The right side of my body was too weak to apply so much pressure that I was constantly placing on it. After a discussion with my family doctor, I was informed that it was crucial that I changed my major.
I know that I have completed numerous credit hours but I am on the right path to completing my Elementary Education degree. I have been admitted to the teacher education program and have worked extremely hard the past 3 semesters at -- University. I have maintained a good GPA each semester and only taking the required courses needed to graduate. Recently, I had a meeting with Melanie --- and discussed my planned curriculum which explained the courses I have left and when I would take Methods, the Praxis exam, and perform student teaching. My anticipated graduation date is Spring 2012.
I have enclosed proper documentation of my cerebral palsy and how I should not become a nurse. I have also enclosed my PCP that was discussed with Melanie -- and a letter from my advisor, Dorothy --
Please consider reinstating my financial aid so that I will be able to graduate in Spring 2012.

Thank you,
My name
