Please help me identify the subject and verb in this sentence:
Tamika became engaged to Hassan after just three dates.

Hi, Taylasky!

No-one answers the hard ones and they just stay on the screen for a long time but this is what I think -

I am not absolutely sure but I think the answer they are wanting from you would be that the verb is "became" and the subject is "Tamika." You get the subject by isolating the verb (became) and saying who or what did this and the answer is Tamika so that is your subject.

My answer is based on the fact that we were taught in school (before you were born) that there is a group of words that are verbs but have no action connected to them. They were taught as no-action verbs. The ones I remember are -
is,, was, are, am, seem, become, grow, appear and look.
You can do all of these things without moving!!!

Some answerers may argue that the verb is "became engaged" and this is the only other possibility in the sentence - Tamika became engaged to Hassan after just three dates. However, this would not work if you said Tamika became happy (or ferocious) with Hassan after just three dates.
