hi guys, i have a nokia e61 on tmobile right now. i got it months ago because i thought that i can use for my work email. the it dept at my work didn't let it work because its not one of the approved devices. my desktop at work wouldn't let me install any programs for push email. we access our email through outlook. and the blackberry approved device works on enterprise messaging. here's my problem. i am going on vacation to asia, philippines in particular, and i need some sort of email access to communicate with my staff. what are my options? someone suggested signing up with yahoo or hotmail account and use my e61 with bb bis. any other suggestions? i kinda need a fast email access using the phone. someone suggested just doing yahoo blackberry bis and turning on international blackberry for an extra 19.99 per month. so that's 19.99 for bis, 19.99 for international access. any other suggestions? i plan on getting a prepaid sim over there and using that for my phone calls. tmo voice roaming to the philippines is $3.00/min. i can't afford that. also, someone said that if someone from the us calls me and even if i don't pick up that's still $3.00 fee? any suggestions for my situation?

If you sign up for Blackberry BIS, you will get a t-mobile BB address, something like [email protected]. What I do is simply add a filter to my corporate mail server that forwards all e-mails to that address, then I get all e-mails from work on my E61. I do have to delete them later when I get into my e-mail client, but this is the only way my work will let me get the e-mails as they do not have a corporate BB Server. This of course assumes that your IT dept at work will allow that? When you set up your BB address on T-Mobile.com, you can spoof your return address to your real address instead of the [email protected] address. Nobody will know a return e-mail is from your E61 if you do this. Combine this with the International BB and you should be good overseas. I have used it a few times and it works great.

As for calls, one option to consider is to use VOIP (that is if you have wireless access). If you don't then it will be tough. There are a bunch of VOIP providers to use. I have got INPHONEX and VOIPTALK working fine. I am happy to share my SIP settings if you want to pursue this as an option. TruPhone is another that should work.
