I had a male and two female but the male unfortunately died as it had fin rot. The 2 female fish started showing signs of the same disease so I bought Melafix 3 days ago which seems to be working and I've bought another male which is in another bowl. The only thing is, the male doesn't seem to be eating and just sits in the water all the time completely still (even during the day). I've just given him food and he spat it out and was wondering whether I could put him in the big tank with the other females as the water has the Melafix in it so hopefully he won't get infected. Can anybody advise? Please only answer if you know, not guess as I don't want this fish to die.
The male is a new fish and isn't infected and the two females seem to be recovering with the Melafix. The tank is 21 litres with plants, gravel, etc., and the bowl with the male is just a glass mixing bowl from the kitchen with no plants or gravel (all we've got until he transfers).
We have a gravel cleaner to clean and syphon the water and do a third water change every week. A total clean was done at the weekend when the first male fish died. The water is treated with treatment to take out the chlorine and also to produce the bacteria for fish. The water is room temperature which was recommended by the Fisheries expert when bought.
