Our class is writing an essay on why Australia was essentially a better place to live, or immigrate than the British Isles in the early 1800s and we had to pick a specific group to focus on and I picked "free- settlers" in general. Both convicts that served their sentence and were set free and those who immigrated to Australia by choice.
And I was wondering, are there any good online sources that focus on free settlers in general? I've been looking online but it seems all the info I can find is in books.
How did australia in the 1800s produce more work prospects for free settlers than there was available in the british Isles?
And are there any links to the life stories of free settlers once they immigrated to Australia around that time? In our essay we need to give examples to all our contentions and finding examples is quite hard
btw, this is a year 8 essay so it's not too complicated.
