I have a 2000 Stratus 2.4 liter with an electrical issue. The other night as I started it to go to work I noticed that after the car fired up, the dome light and headlights were flickering. Then the battery light in the dash came on. I took a different car to work and in the morning checked voltages with a multimeter. With the car off the battery has 12 volts, with the car on it shows 14.2 volts. There was excessive play in the alternator belt which I then tightened. Took the car out for a test drive and after 30 miles, no battery light in the dash. Thinking everything was cool I park the car and go to bed. The next day I hop in to go run some errands and within a mile, the light came back on. Checked voltages again and there was nothing different, 12 off, 14.2 on. I went and ran my errands and the battery light stayed off. I'm stumped. The battery shows a good charge, the alternator shows a good charge, what is making this light come on and how do I fix it?
