I've been volunteering as an adult literacy tutor for over a year now with the same student who is 40 years old. He reads probably around the level of a 10 year old. When we work on writing or spelling, he seems to want to throw the letter L into words even though you dont hear the L sound. Just yesterday he spelled the world shower, shlwler. I'm trying to understand his thought pattern so I can help him but I cant follow why he's doing this.
Probably should mention that we have a pronunciation difference because he's a New Zealander and I'm American.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
