I asked this question in the books and authors section and didn't really get a answer that fully answered all of my questions. So I'm asking it here. I'm skipping ahead in my book because I've decided that one of my characters is going to have a baby. The problem is, I don't know how to write a birth scene. In fact, I don't know if I should even write the scene. So questions:
1. should I or should I not write the birth scene? If so, how detailed?
got that covered, i'm writing it
2. how should I go about writing the scene? The book takes place in a fantasy world. And they're not around civilization at the time of the birth. There are roughly six in the group (including the pregnant girl) and they've made camp by a stream deep in the forrest. (sounds kind of cheesey, eh?) So they're not around other people where the girl can get good help from midwives.
3. how should it happen? like, what should happen leading up to the actual birth? should the others be there or not? should they be around when it happens? should they be there?
4. how should it happen? as in, what should happen *during* the birth?
5. any other suggestions or tips on how to write a realistic (but not graphic and nasty) birth scene?
i especially need help with numbers 3, 4, and 5. What should happen leading up to the birth and what should happen during it? as it, what would make it realistic and what would it be like?
