Help with a math riddle, please?

My brother and I differ in our answers to a math riddle. It's not homework, but I wonder if you will give your answers, so that I can prove my brother wrong! (just kidding)

Here's the riddle:

Brother says: I have as many sisters as I do brothers.

Sister says: I have twice as many brothers as I do sisters.

How many people are in the family, including parents?

Nine people, three sisters, four brothers, and two parents.

Explanation:
The brother doesn't count himself when he counts brothers, so he would count three. There are also three sisters.
The sister doesn't count herself when counting sisters, so she would have two sisters and four brothers (2 x 2 = 4).
3 + 4 + 2 parents = 9 people.
 
Well okay, it's porbably two parents.

And then at least one boy and girl.

2 + 1 + 1

And it can't be one boy or girl because they both claim to have same gender siblings.

2 + 2 + 2 = 6.

The brother has one brother and two sisters. The sister has one sister and two brothers. 1 x 2 is definitely 2.

So I go with 6.
