help with a adapter for my headset?

I bought a gaming headest that was intended for the computer but im trying to use it on my ps3. When i put it into the ps3 through the usb ports in the front i can use it like a normal headset but i cant get the game sounds to come out of the headset they come out of the tv. so do you think it is possible just to take the red and white cords leave the yellow in my tv and some how hook them up to my headset? this is were im wondering if there is a adapter like this. It needs the red and white cord on one side and a spot for the usb from the headsets to plug in if that would even work.
