Help with '93 Honda Civic with brake issues...?

Okay, so my brakes have been squeaking a little lately. It recently got pretty bad. I hear it by the front wheel on the drivers side. The sound is like something falling apart, or rubbing.. I even hear it when I'm not using the break pedal, it's almost a constant noise. Today I saw a little bit of white smoke from under the hood. I do a LOT of driving, so any information will help.... (Especially the cost)

sounds like you need to replace your brake pads, which is fairly simple
but, if you aren't a car person, which i assume you are not, then you should bring your car into you local repair shop
