Help with 4x4 trouble on 1999 ford ranger?

i bought the truck about a week ago and everything works nicely exept for the 4x4. the truck is an extended cab, standard , V6. so when i turn the switch in neutral nothing happens, no noises, no 4x4 light or anything. i was told it could be the fuse but i cant find it, i already checked the owners manual and i cant find the 4x4 one, thank you very much for your help
