Help w/Alpine 6 disc cd changer in a 2002 Lincoln LS?

I have a 2002 Lincoln LS. It has an alpine 6 disc cd changer. I am guessing its a factory stereo. It keeps giving me an error and will not play an CD's. It keeps saying all the slots are full, when really, there is no CD's in the stereo. The Lincoln dealership said I would need a new stereo, but I do not beleive that.
