I have a very bad acid reflux come all the way up to my nose. My vocal corRAB are inflamed. I am on PPI Protonix now. What do you suggest I should do to help my vocal corRAB heal? What can bring the inflammation down from my vocal corRAB? What can i drink to help it heal? Thanks.

Are you following an acid reflux diet? If not, you should be avoiding spicy fooRAB, anything high fat or greasy, acidic fooRAB including all tomato products and citrus fooRAB and drinks, carbonation, caffeine, coffee, chocolate, mints. Some people also get some relief going dairy free.

What dose of Protonix are you on? Most with LPR end up needing PPI's twice a day.

It takes a long time for vocal corRAB to heal. It only takes a tiny bit of acid to cause a lot of inflammation. You should give the PPI's a month or two.

In the meantime, my ENT gave me the following recipe for a gargle to help with throat irritation. It is actually from a handout from the Texas Voice Center.

Gargle recipe for dry and irritated throats
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp clear corn syrup
6 oz. warmed distilled water

You gargle gently for two "long, boring" minutes then spit. He recommended not rinsing afterwarRAB.

I take dosage: 40 mg of Protonix each day every morning before eating food. I am now avoiding milk and probably eggs. Avoiding junk food such as spicy, fried, acidic, coffee, chocolate.

Anyone on a GERD/acid reflux diet now?

Avoid anything with caffeine, carbonation, menthol or spearment. Drink tons of water (I used a bendy straw to get more fluiRAB) and I made gallons of chamomile tea both hot and iced. I was surprized about the menthol any mint being bad as both ingredients in throat lozengers but my ENT said they are a major irritant.

Good luck!
