It all goes back to number one question in U.S. politics. That is, more government, or less government? Federalists were the modern day liberals, they believed in government intervention, and the anti-federalists were wary of government. Federalists wanted a national bank that would be in government control. Anti-federalists were completely against this. Andrew Jackson disasembled the national bank I believe, he was obviously an anti-federalist.
