My mother is a year out from L4 L5 fusion and has very bad nerve damage through out her right foot and leg. Her doctor recommended lurabar sempathetic block followed by lurabar radio frequency neurotomy to alleviate the pain caused by the nerve damage from the surgery. Has any one here gone threw L4 L5 fusion and had success with these procedures or any for that matter they could share with us. We appreciate any knowledge you can pass on to us and would love to here first hand experience versus what the doctors tell you and scattered information on the Internet.

Thank you very much

Austin,

Nerves are very touchy things. They don't like to be messed with, moved, touched, you get the picture. When your Mom had fusion, did she get the nreve pain? Or had she had it for awhile? It can take a year to have a full recovery of the nerves.

Has your Mom's doctor offered her any of the meRAB that are used to control nerve pain? Neurontin, Topomax, Lyrica are three. All of them were originally developed to control seizures, but the side benefit is that they also control nerve pain. You might want to give these a go and see how it works....

Thank you. I read that to my mom and she decided to give lyrica another shot. The nerve damage was from the surgery. She didnt have it before and has had since the operation. If there is any info anyone has on the block or the radio frequency neurotomy that would be great. Once again thanks for the reply and info ibake&pray.

I had a rhizotomy (neurotomy) done at L5 and nerves to right SI joint. I obtained relief for about 3.5 months before the neural connections regenerated (sigh). I've recently been given option for surgery or a lifetime series of neurotomies. I think the surgery will be cheaper in the long run and less taxing on the nerves (no pun intended).

I also had my nerves damaged due to surgery. And it's all in my right leg, I tried all the meRAB and none of them worked for me, but we are all different. Anyways I ended up with a spinal cord stimulator put in me. You can go to your dr and have a trial one put on you to try before they put it in you. And it it used to stimulate your nerves and works. So talk to the dr about and keep me informed and I hope all works well.

wow today well last night was scary. My moms whole body went into a spasm to the point where she couldnt move for a while. And after 10 hours in the hospital two different pain meRAB pumped in threw an iv a pain patch 4 puke tubs cat scan and few other tests she's finally home. Only plus was an optimistic nurse who went threw somthing similar who gave my mom some kind and hopefull worRAB. But its only a matter of time before she starts to let her doubts and worry build up to a climax again. For now its recovery from torn muscle. Then water theropy to gain streangth and letting her body heal. But im sure in a few days ill here about another procedure she wants to do and how things are getting worse. Its hard to tell some one to be strong when theyarethe ones going threw with it...

Ill be sure to share your posts with her and maybe theres somthing she will gain from them.

Thank You

Is your mom in active Pain Management with a Pain Management doctor? That would help a GREAT deal. My PM doc is a guide to what pain treatments and medications may work.
