Help!!! Samsung Galaxy S? Captivate? vs Iphone 4 vs Blackberry torch

I am looking to upgrade my phone. I currently have the blackberry pearl flip. I really like my blackberry, so I am leaning towards getting the torch, but I have read reviews for it and they aren't that great.
I do like the Iphone. My husband has the Iphone 3gs. Works great but it tends to drop calls every once and a while.
I was looking at the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate, it looks like that phone might be the one for me, the review I have read so far are pretty good. But my big issue is I don't know when it is coming out, I would like to get a new phone sooner than later.

Which phone would be the best. I do like to text,use the social networks. What to do.

Sorry if this makes no sense.
 
I will have to say my opinion is biased as I have the iPhone4 and really enjoy it.

For simplicity and yet with enough variety the iPhone4 is second to none and there is just about an app for anything.
As for the Samsung it is based on the Android platform and the only complaint I would have is the crapware the phone carriers are allowed to put on them e.g. rogers store or whatever etc.. (Apple does not allow that)

Other than that either is just a matter of getting used to so I hear (with Android)
 
All three phones are good for social networking. A bit of an edge for the Samsung Captivate as social networking is more integrated, but if messaging and social networking are your main concerns, all three should be good.
 
hmm, I will choose iPhone 4. Though the Samsung Galaxy have many function
Hmm, just considering to buy one or not, as Im also really happy with my fantastic iPhone 4, I think iPhone 4 go the time superiority.
 
Wait for the Rogers Captivate or go for Bell's Vibrant. Both are awesome phones! Im using a t-mobile Vibrant on wind and its the best phone i have used.
 
We just got the Galaxy S i9000T on island. This is the international Galaxy S, not the Captivate, with 850, 1900 and 2100 3G bands. Pretty sure on the 850 at least. No lock, no carrier crapware but it does have a lot of Samsung's own bundle.
 
Might also want to consider the manufacturer and carriers customer service, repair & replacement policies. With these phones being as complex and expensive as they are, the need for good customer service down the road could be a real issue.

It would be interesting to know what level of customer service is offered by these three phone manufacturers.
 
I guess there are pros and cons to all phones.

- Iphone is fast, a lot of apps, built well but there is not a lot of customization, no flash support and then there is the reception issue
- Captivate is fast, alot of apps and you can customize it and it supports flash. but the lack of camera flash, front facing camera and I think the build quality is not as good as the iphone or the torch. (to much plastic)
- torch has a physical keyboard with a touch screen, BBM, good phone quality and great email service. It is not as fast as the others and does not have the resolution that the others have as well.

I like all three phones, I am interested in the torch because I the fact that there is both a touch screen and physical keyboard. I know with the phone that I have now (LG Vantage) that after the 2nd year the touch screen started to go so with the torch you would have the keyboard and scroll pad as a backup.
I know that I would use the front facing camera or the hd video that much so that does not bother me.

I think you would have to try all 3 and make your own decision. I don't think you would go wrong with either choice.
 
Go with the Captivate...I had the Iphone (and used and used an iTouch with my N97 becasue it was faster over WiFi)

However the Captivate leaves both ib the dust. The Captivate is not locked to propeitary software to get what you want transfered nor does it care and wil not erase your phone if you check a wrong box or switch computers, You can use it as a Mass Storage device, or with a Smsung specialized Program. You can also send files to other BT phones. It is very customizable. No plethora of little square icons. You can actually READ Email headers and realtime updates on the screen without opening an Application. Just swipe to it. Frankly I am surprised ATT came out with such a nice device to actually compete head to head on equal footing with the iPhone. I think this guy will steal some iPhone sales.

It is very fast. As fast as my Itouch. Reception is only slightly better. (The Nokia had both beat in that department) however Wifi is fault free.

There is no flash but you don;t need it as this phone takes great indoor pics in natural lighting, Also no front camera which I had on the Nokia and never had a use for. I don't need face to face calling and not sure of or how much data would be used up using that feature, Battery life is great for a phone that has so many BG apps running and updating.

The Markeyplace has more secletions then I need and multiple selections for every application. a 24 hour refund is available for nearly every App I bought. But I am very Google Centric as far as my Calanders, contacts etc so the Andriod OS is made for Google sycing.

I really think this guy will give iPhone a run fo the money. It hs the capabilities of being the iPhone equal if not killer. I read somewhere already Android is using more data than iPhone.

My biggest issue with iphone was and is APPLE Corp. (and the reception wasn't all that great) ...and their lock down on the phone with Itunes. and crippled BT use for OBEX file transfers. I have not used my Itouch since I got the Captivate,

I am not fond of touch screen keyboards but at least Samsung gives one 3 different modes of typing including Swype and The Android mode allows for Voice texting as well. I am warming up to the lack of a physical QWERTY keyboard in favor of a larger screen.

I cannot speak for Blackberry but Apple has great customer Service and a few have local stores....Samsung has great phone service as I was able to reach them easily and had my questions answered,
 
What I like about the Samsung is a simple swipe across the screen allows you to actually READ all the posts and inputs from FB to Mail to Twitter all on different screens as well as AP news etc. No apps to open to actually read information. No cluster of icons on eery page except those you place there and plenty of useful "widgets" that are actually informational.. The Voice operated Google search widget is amazing. Press the mike icon on the Google bar and you go right to the results page. VERY fast,

Text to specch works well although not as smooth as you would find on a Garmin in NAV apps. All in all a great phone and with a $15 plan no less. I don;t use more than a few MB of data a day so I likely won;tneed the 2GB plan. I am glad ATT is charging for tiered data. Some people were off the hook in data use. Others hardly broke 100MB a month. Pay per use is a good idea and will bring more people into the market for these phones as the $360/year mandatory Dat plan left a lot of smart phones on the shelf. ATT knows if they can get these phones into people's hands they will have many more users and data payers and their networks will not be bogged down by those using 4GB a month.

Yeah I like the Samsung and never though I would buy anything but a Nokia. Motorola not from a Refridgerator and TV Company....I was not impressed with the Omni at all.....even though I ame from SYMBIAN
 
That will be the i9000T. We got that here in Guam too. Docomo Pacific (subsidiary of NTT Docomo) is selling it. Unlocked. You know Docomo has made an agreement with Samsung, since the Galaxy S will also soon be headed to Japan for the Docomo network there.

i9000T has minor differences over i9000.

8gb internal than 16gb. Hopefully the SD memory here is faster.

Software bundle now includes mSpot and some kind of task killer that Samsung made up. I have not seen this task killer before on the other Galaxy S so its making its first appearance here.

I have the exact issue of choosing between the 4 and the captivate. Torch isn't an option for me because I dislike blackberry phones for one simple answer: runs neither iOS (plz, plz don't explain why) nor the android (don't explain y?).

In the end it boils down to personal preference. Why?

I also have a question about flash. I know that during the early release of the 4, flash was not support. What about now though? If it's still not then that's a big downer for me. (I know about 3rd party ways of doing it).

You should ask yourself, are you the type to like sophisticated software/fw? Because if you don't, an android phone may not be for you as I have many colleagues get frustrated from using it. I on the other hand, love the android OS and this is why I am leaning towards the captivate. I can answer your questions if you can answer this first.

However, I also have the issue with wanting the vibrant as bell's vibrant has the front facing camera for video chat.

As for resell, definitely iphone wins because it's a lone player in the smartphone market vs all other companies pushing new phones with android. So if you want to sell your phone at a higher price in the coming years, iphone is the way to go (demand curve shifts to left slower than samsungs).

Edit: Oh yes, and I do want people to help decide for me too haha (hijack threads much?)
 
I find Android much more exciting than iOS. It can do much more than iOS can even with jailbreaking.
What's great about Android is that it is designed to be modular meaning you can replace any app (incl. stock ones). You can customize the phone anyway you want. Android widget-based homescreen is so appealing and functional.
