MRI of the Lurabar Spine:

Findings: There is loss of the normal lurabar lordosis. Vertebral body stature and heigh are maintained and there is no fracture or listhesis. THere is desiccation of the L5/S1 Disc. There is also a moderate sized right paracentral disc protrustion with increased T2 signal compatible with an annular tear. This abuts the exiting right S1 nerve root as it exits the thecal sac. The neuroforamina are patent. Visualized soft tissues are unremarkable.

Impression:
1. Moderate right paracentral disc protrustion with annular tear at L5/S1 which abuts the right S1 nerve root as it exits the thecal sac.
2. Loss of normal lurabar lordosis which can be seen with paravertebral muscle spasm

To give some background history I am in the military and about 3yrs ago and hurt my back through either an accident rope clirabing or during corabatives. I be younger didn't take the pain serious even though it was to the points I could not even bend over and put my socks or shoes on. Went to a doc back then and was told it was just common back pain. Pain kinda went away with just minor aches and pains here and there. Well since then the tingling in my legs has only gotten worse. From time to time probably about every 3-6 months my back will have fits and the pain is probably the worse I have ever felt and I will not be able to stand or walk without severe pain for a couple of days before it resides and just lingers in my buttocks and right leg for a couple of weeks. Then it goes back to just tingling or small sharp pains from time to time in my lower back and right leg.

Wasn't until my 4th Doctor visit that a doc finally decided to schedule me for an MRI and even then he thought it was just maybe muscle spasms. Any help on reading this MRI and helping me figure out what this mess of my back is?

My doctor has not suggested anything yet. After getting the MRI results back he called me and informed me that he had put me in for a referral to see a neurosurgeon. Never had a sit down and talk with my doctor for the exact breakdown of the MRI. I will be visiting the neurosurgeon on 7 Oct so hopefully he can give me the skinny of everything and help be find treatments other than surgery.

The first step is to get an exam and consultation with an Orthopedic Spine Surgeon and/or Neurosurgeon. They can help you figure out what the surgical and non-surgical treatment options are.
