I plan on purchasing a road bike for long-distance touring. I am interested in the Specialized Secteur, a road bike designed for endurance and long rides. However, I also came upon the Specialized Sequoia, a discontinued bike that shares very similar geometry and is also built for comfort. The Secteur is basically a new version of the Sequoia.
I have found a used 2006 Sequoia Elite and am debating whether I should buy this or a new 2010 Secteur. Here are the pro's and con's of each bike.
- 2006 Sequoia Elite -
pros:
Better components than Secteur (Shimano 105)
Around $500
cons:
Used, so the components might not be as reliable as a new bike
Not very appealing design
- 2010 Secteur -
pros:
New bike, new componenets
Nice design and colors
cons:
Worse components than the Sequoia (Shimano 2200)
Around $750
What are your opinions? Is the NEW Secteur worth the additional $250? Or should I save the money and purchase the USED Sequoia?
Thanks. 10 points to best answer.
