I have been suffering for too long. I am a Kaiser Ins. meraber and wonder if they have me with the right doctors. I have degenerative disk disease in the neck and lower back. What doctors are you all being treated by? What is the best doctor/ specialist to be seeing?

I am kaiser on the east coast. You should be seeing a spinal surgeon. Who are they sending you too?

A spinal orthopedic surgeon. Go to the Kaiser site and it gives you choices of drs and then their training and where they went to school. There is the new Kaiser facility on Woodman in Panorama City, (I think that is where it is) and then downtown right? Take the time and look up the doctors. My surgery was through workmanscomp so I was able to go to Southern California Orthopedic Institute

Thank you Mel52 and 123dietdrpepper. Kaiser has been having me see a MD, anesthesiologist in the pain clinic. He has been treating me with various attempts at facet blocks, etc. I have been the pin cushion for two years and now he wants to do an I-DET, but thinks I might be too far along in one of the disks for it to work. He has said he will refer me to a surgeon, but I haven't read good things about fusions. EEEk, I am only 47 and I now have degeneration in my neck and the lower lurabar regions. This sucks... Denise

Denise, I have had 2 fusions. The first fusion was successful and this second one has not. My biggest advice is once you have seen a surgeon within Kaiser and if they feel a surgery is necessary ask for referral from the speciality physicians. They are doctors off plan but agree to see Kaiser patients for a prenegotiated rate. It allows you to get an unbiased second opinion. I strongly recommend it before agreeing to a fusion. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. Good luck.
