Help on transferring address book. . .

Ketchup!

New member
I apologize for posting in this area but what looked like the most appropriate place for posting hadn't had a post since last November.

Anyway, I have Palm OS 4.01 contact database(s) on my home and work computers, built with a Sony CLIE that has died.

I have a Samsung smartphone that I want to transfer the database(s) too, but obviously, I on't want to lose that data while trying to do so.

Any tips for me? Do I just try and sync as I would have with my CLIE? Do I need to install the new Palm operating system that came with the Samsung on my computers first? If the instructions say to remove old palm programs first will I lose my existing data?

etc. . .

Thanks for your help,
Reid

Most likely if you install the latest Palm Desktop that came with your phone all should be restored upon your first hotsync if you use the same user name as the Clie.

If it asks you to delete the previous version then here's what I'd suggest:

Find the Address Book, ToDo, Calendar, Notes or Memos subdirectories for each of these named PIM apps. Then copy the file called AddressBook.dat etc for all of the major pim apps.

You can also copy the bak and dba(archived) files.

This data, is always importable via the Palm Desktop retrive archive or open function off of the file menu and you can then use it to import into the blank records on your new desktop.

I'd try the installation first - should work without a hitch.
