help on carp fishing?

well idk what kind of carp they are but i live in california so yeh. well me and my dad go fishin and early in the morning we see carp sucking random stuff off the top of the water. me and my dad were gonna use a bobber with a 2 hook rig and have corn on one hook and hotdogs on the other.my dad said he had a friend who used hot dog coins and got a carp every 5-10 mins.. is there anything else you guys would reccommend for fishing carp? like what bait? we usually bring grass shrimp for stripers.. would they eat that?
 
With the carp it's not as much about the bait as it is getting it to the location that they are feeding in. Bread balls have been known to work in your situation.
