Hello i am doing a debate on this class and i was forced to do it on human rights i wanted global warming but anyways i am at the pro side believing that the the whole international community should make sure human rights are meet and if the governments abuses human rights we should help the people the opposing side thinks that it is the governments responsibility i think that they are going to use this argument
It seems that "culture" is sometimes used as a veil to continue with a practice that violates human rights standards, when the aim is to maintain the status quo. In certain circumstances, conforming to human rights would signify a fundamental change in society that the elite is not willing to undertake, fearing a potential change in the balance of power. "What is proposed as corrective is liberating, and for that reason, threatening to the normative pretensions of those defending the status quo," writes Richard Falk, of Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Intern
I think this is saying when countries go into different countries how they are going to know if what the government is doing is part of there culture or is it abusing of human rights. Because if they interfering with human rights than it is a political issue than a human rights if anyone wants to give me a good rebuttal i would love that you would
