Hi Vinny,
I just read your posts and am glad to hear that you have had numerous opinions and made a decision. As posters have said you will know when it is time for surgery. I had to make this decision for my teenage daughter a few years ago. It was the most difficult decision I've ever had to make. We also consulted with three different pediatric orthopaedists. My daughter was born with spondylolisthesis and spinal stenosis. It was discovered at age 11 and advanced to grade II with daily dancing on dance team in high school. She had constant lower back pain and severe leg pains.

I had her surgery booked when she was 15. We already had two other opinions that thought surgery was in the best interest but one dr would try bracing prior to surgery. We went to her preopt appointment and after meeting for over an hour with her dr discussing all of our findings, her pain levels and the fact that she was still water skiing, decided to cancel her surgery. He tried bracing for three months and pt after. Well about nine months later she began having the tingling in her foot. After an mri we all decided that it was really time now. This was really hard but I knew at this time it was the right thing to do now.

She did have a two level fusion and laminectomy. She is doing great today. She is a real success story. She is coming to three years post op and is back to snow and water skiing, played tennis her senior year and really has no restrictions.

I guess what I'm telling you in this long story, it that you have made the right decision for your at the time. I'm sure your doctors tell you to listen to your body. That's what her dr always tells her. Now with all of your new information you will be able to listen to your body and know when the right time for the surgery is. Best wishes on your son's graduation. What an exciting and busy time with all of the festivities, trying to decide on a school and then packing and moving. My daughter just went through this last year and is a freshman in college now. Best to you and don't over do it. cas
