Mornin' Glory

Can someone provide me with a thorough list of flowering plants and some plants with nice foliage that are hardy to Zone 9 (Texas)?
I have a bare lot that would look great with some more color.
When we moved in, there was already a Pomegranate tree that shows pretty red ruffly flowers spring and summer. Also, there's a plain but attractive weed-turned-2 story tree, too big or expensive to chop down and start over. I also now have established gorgeous purple-blue Morning Glory vines. The dirt is mostly dry, sandy, with clay in it, and the entire area is engulfed in full, hot Texas sun, with some partial sun-shady areas near the fences and under trees.
Also, if anyone can tell me what fertilizer to use for these plants, and how often I should fertilize, I would GREATLY appreciate it!!
Thank you for all the help you can give me this spring!!!!
