My boyfriend, friend and myself are all renting an apartment together. Recently, my friend lost his job. My boyfriend was nice enough to offer that he would pay his part of the rent just as long as he was out looking for a job and doing follow ups. The first few weeks were fine. Then my room mate got lazy and started to not turn in his applications, sleeping in till the late PM hours and playing video games all night. My boyfriend then told him that he had till the end of the month to get out. He's not even been living here, he's been living at his dad's house. When I came home today I found a message from my room mate that had said "Fill out these forms, I'll be back at 6 to get my things". All would be fine right? wrong? My room mate is a slob! He has a hole left in his bedroom wall, he ripped his blinds down off the windows (which came with the appartment) and his cat has scratched up and tore threads out of chunks out of his carpet. Now, I'm not signing the lease for him to move out. It would be a free ride for him to get away with not having to pay for the damages. I want to have them assesed by the management and property office. Will I be able to do that and have him be held accountable for the expenses of the damages or am I just screwed?
