My brother today, now 31 years old, was found in his car at a gas station after rolling into the curb and not moving. Someone noticed this incident and tried to get the door open or at least instruct him to unlock the car, but he was unable to comprehend the advice, or perhaps unable to do so himself. The police arrived and broke the window to get him out and said he was having a seizure, and also vomiting. He has never once had a seizure before so this was very shocking for us--there is no family history of it, either.
He was taken to the closest hospital. We informed a relative who lived nearby (this place is far for us) to go there and see what condition he was in. After extremely anxious moments our relative called and said he was starting to "come out of" the seizure state, but then suffered *another* 2 seizures and vomited again. He is now on a ventilator and being given Ativan to relax him. We will not be able to go to this hospital until tomorrow.
Does anyone have any experience with these things, and what I can expect his condition/prognosis to be? I thought it was rare to get a seizure past 30 if you have no history of it, so this seems very strange. I am very worried for him because he's an anxious/stressed type of person who doesn't handle these things very well. He has always been in good health with no known health problems, although he is slightly overweight and a poor eater (lots of sugar and artificial additives in his diet.) He has also been taking an SSRI antidepressant for 3 months now (never any problems besides early side effects that disappeared), and an OTC allergy medication daily for the spring/summer.
Does this type of incident seem familiar to anyone? It came out of the blue and shocked me. He's 31 and never, ever had anything like this happen. I could really use some insight on this, as I'm very worried, and my relatives haven't called for a while so his condition is unknown (he may still be sedated.)
Needing some help,
Benit
