Hi, I have a 98 Grand Am. Recently the check engine light came on an I took it to Advance Auto Parts and they said it was a 4th cylinder misfire, I took it to the shop and they said I need a coil pack and bootkit and coil etc. Does this mean I have a bad engine? If I get those items fixed will it be just fine or is it stupid to even try and fix it? Thank you for your help!
Well The mechanic that looked at it the first time said that the spark plugs were fine, I had those changed about 15,000 miles ago. Also when I back up it kinda putters like its not catching or when I accelerate between about 55-65 it jerks and putters really bad like its having trouble shifting into the next gear but they say it has to do with that 4th cylinder but to me (and I know nothing about cars) that it has something to do with the transmission, but the transmission is fine.
