Do all poets expect you to interpret a poem in the way they wrote it? Forgive me, I'm having trouble putting what I'm thinking into words. I mean, what if he/she writes about a tragic childhood event in which some of us are not able to relate to? How are we supposed to understand the poem? Or, is everything left to personal interpretation?
I just don't understand how some people can pull the meanings they do from poems. Some poems are obvious, but others I just think, "How did so-and-so derive that meaning from THIS poem?"
