So I've been having this issue during my rec league basketball games,
happened again last night. After about only 10 minutes of playing
when I start to get winded, I feel what feels like some kind of ball
of phlegm in my throat. The best way I can describe it, its like
there's a golf ball gravitating in the middle of my throat, where air
and everything can get around it but its just there giving me the
sensation that I need to cough. The first couple times it happened, I
would obviously try to hack it out, but nothing at all will come no
matter how hard I try. The feeling slowly diminishes throughout the
night, but is still present, until I wake up the next morning.
Last night was particularly strange, as soon as I sat down and started
to relax and everything at home, I got very, very tired. The kind of
tired that happens when you overly exert yourself, basically
exhaustion. I even got a bit of a headache after a while. From 10 to 15 minutes of basketball? What the heck is going on? Is it possible to develop asthma at this stage? Am I way
more out of shape than I think I am? For the record, I am 30 years
old, nowhere close to overweight. Somewhat active, usually play some
sport during all seasons. For the record it never feels like I am
actually choking on air, I can breathe, its just like something is
there in my throat making it a little tougher. The deeper I breathe, the more I can feel it. Short shallow breaths and its barely there. Large deep breaths and its an almost certain urge to cough. This morning when I woke up, I still feel a bit weak and tired and am not completely rid of the desire to cough.
Last night as I was hacking on the bench, one of my buddies made the
comment that he thinks its the air in the old gyms we play in. We
play in middle school gyms that are at least 50 years old. I'm not
sure I buy that as no one else seems to have this exact issue,
although they say they especially winded in those buildings. I wish I
could compare it to other times I run, but I don't run long distances
in anything else that I play. I'm not a runner at the gym or at home.
Frankly I hate running. But for some reason this only seems to
happen at rec league basketball.
Anyhow, I know I should probably go to the doctor on this and will,
but before I waste the time I wanted to get some feedback... I havent
found a damn thing on the internet. I am most concerned with how
exhausted I felt upon returning home last night, like this is
advancing into something that I am not getting enough air.
Any opinions are very much appreciated..
