Help in a 10th grade Physics question?

Our Physics teacher gave us a challenging question for our class after finishing the topic of 'Thermometers', and I tried to solve it by coming up with different ways and answers, but I'm not sure if any of them are right. Here it is:

"A faulty thermometer reads 5 degrees Celsius when placed in pure, melting ice and 120 degrees Celsius when placed in the steam of boiling water. Calculate

a) the correct temperature if the thermometer reads 90 degrees Celsius.
b) the reading of the thermometer if the correct temperature is 40 degrees Celsius."

I'd appreciate any kind of help provided over here, and I'd prefer to get a clear, simple explanation of the way(s) to do the question. Thanks a lot in advance.
