hey everyone,

i'm a mac newbie. been using the new imac for about 3 weeks now, so far so good but a few problems i've noticed:

1. whenever i try to turn the computer off while multiple users are logged on, the computer asks for the master password. how do i disable this function? it's a bit annoying.

2. is there a shortcut for switching between users? at the moment i have to move my mouse to the top right corner of the screen to do that.

3. the mighty mouse is not very comfortable for me. can someone suggest a good, reasonably-priced alternative mouse? (i'm a girl with tiny hands)

4. is it possible to remove certain items from the dock? i rarely use iChat.

5. how do i record voice message on imac? does it have a software for me to do that?

thanks everyone!
hey Humz,

about the dock: i don't want to remove/delete the softwares; just want them not be in the dock. is there any way to do that? thanks.

1. I'm pretty sure you go in to "System Preferences" > "Accounts" > "Security" it should be in there.

2. Try WinSwitch:

3. Any USB mouse will work for you.

4. Drag it from the dock onto the desktop and it will poof and be removed.

5. Audacity is good recorder:

Good luck, hope this helped.

I love my iMac!

Answers

1. You can not disable this function Just make a master password that is short so you can remember it.

2. No, Sorry

3. Other mouses do not work on Macs on account of the Mighty Mouse is hooked up through USB.

4. Yes, Click on the Icon of the unused program and hold down drag off. You should see animated dust and hear a "Whoosh" sound, The Icon is now off the Dock.

5. Have a blank desktop screen. Then click on the Macintosh HD icon then on Applications scroll down until you see Garage Band click on that and a grey box will pop up and you will see 4 buttons click on "New Podcast Project" (If the grey box does not pop up and a new or old Document does just exit this document and you will see the grey box.) And it will take you to the recording program. Once Finished, Save your Voice message you can now attach it to Emails, listen to it and Doctor it up with sound effects. (You don't need to buy Garage Band it is already there)

Enjoy your Computer!
