ok so like my transmissions fluid was leaking so we took it to the mechanics, and they charged us about $700 for the parts and labor work they had to do. when they give us the car, the transmission was grinding, we took the car back to the mechanic, the mechanic who worked there said we should buy a new transmission, my question is should i pay them the money to buy a new one, or do they have to fix it.
we didn't okay it, when we took the car back, it made the grinding noise, we payed befor we took the car, then we found the grinding noise.

Your both at fault. When I had my shop, every vehicle was road tested for a minium of 1 1/2 miles (even lube and oil changes) to see or feel is there was a current problem the customer failed to tell us about. If we detected something different then what the customer said, the customer was told before their repair was started. When the repairs were completed, again the vehicle was road tested to make sure the technician had done the repair correctly.

Why would they need to fix it?

You didn't tell them to completely fix the transmission.

You asked them to fix the leak. Which they did.

Now that your transmission is working as it should, another problem has been brought to light.

That's not their problem. It's yours.

Buy a new tranny.

I f you okayed the repairs
you have to pay it .
If you feel they are negligent in the
repairs you will have to fight
the battle and tell them they should
fix it at no cost to you .
Its your car right ?

Well they got a car with a transmission leak, there is no way to tell if the transmission is working properly until the leak is fixed ( You need proper fluid level for the transmission to work properly) They fixed the leak and another problem arose. A grinding transmission does not happen over night, it come from years of service and possible abuse and neglect. It is not their problem, they didn't drive the car all those miles you did when it was working (slowly wearing out). They could have communicated to you more clearly that other problems could be present once the leaks were fixed....but if you didn't complain of anything other than a leak they have no reason to think otherwise. You did spend $700 at the shop and they want you to come back in the future, talk to them with respect and im sure they will be willing to work with you, but to not expect them to buy you a new transmission just because they fixed the leaks that you were concerned about. Good luck!
