Help!!! I can't hear anything out of my laptop speakers!?

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 and my CPU usage was high so I went and started ending processes that looked useless like Skype and I guess I turned off my speakers! When I click the little Speaker icon it goes up but it doesn't make noise. I even went into the control panel and tried to change the system volume but it says that its up half way. Please help if you know what I'm talking about! Thanks
