Even a 'clueless girl' should realize that low tires like that are not good.
Just look at cars and trucks. Their tires are always pretty stiff and look normal, even tho' they have the weight of a ton of metal on them. so bike tires where it's almost touching the rim is obviously bad.
Bike tires should be stiff. YOu should be able to squeeze them when filled with air, and barely be able to pinch them. The sides of the tires should be stiff, almost to where you cannot move the sides if you squeeze them between your fingers.
Pumping air into tires is incredibly hard. It takes soooo long to pump up an air tire. A human just isn't an efficient way of pumping air. It'd be better t go to gas station and pay 50cts to use their air hose to pump up tire. But you've got to be careful because those pumps are usually incredibly powerful, and you can blow up a bike tire---I mean BLOW UP to where it explodes---very easily.
The other way is to get an electrically powered air pump. They sell them for $10-30 at Walmart or such. They're meant to be carried in a car and used in an emergency to fill up a car tire, but these small tiny air pumps aren't that good either, but they're better than trying to use a hand pump, even on a bike tire!!
