1. I believe the Mayflower Compact
2. The English felt oppressed back home from religious intoleration, stifling debts, and the overall English lifestyle with a single monarch changing religion and society as he pleased without mutual consent frustrated the European Pilgrims who moved to the colonies for these reasons. Plus they just wanted to start life anew.
3. Economic incentives led to some colonies developing based on commerce and proprietary gain and religious european migrants settled for the purpose of serving God and thus become highly devout colonies working communally and for the sake of God.
4. Efficient economic activity meant the colonists had good relations with the local Indians and fair weather to deal with; unsuccessful colonies economically showed their inability to deal with harsh weather conditions, swampy forests, foreign soil, and that they didn't use the advantage of gaining knowledge of the new land from the tribes they chose not to get along with.
