...visa yet. any suggestions? Live in Northern Ireland. i have an Irish passport but my husband (who needs a visa also) has a british passport. the problem is that the chinese consulate appear to require an original passport to issue a visa but we are travelling to europe next sunday for a week and need our passports for then! Does anyone have any other suggestions? any web sites which are good? or can we even get one when we arrive?

That should be no problem since the Chinese Embassy at London offers an express service visa to be able to be picked-up within three days, the regular processing is four days.
The consulate at Edingburgh has a regular processing time of 4 days and also offers an express service.
So you should have plenty of time to get your visa issued. You may also have a travel agent to apply in your name if you do not want to queue at the Chinese Embassy or Consulate.
