unfortuently there are many different 'types' of actual coma a person can end up in from certain individual circumstances. to realistically even begin to really answer your question, it would just take alot of real solid info than what we only have here to go on. there are also different "stages' of coma as well. when my son for instance ended up with a traumatic brain injury and double skull fracture after his idiot freind thought it would be "funny' to simply drive off with my son still sitting on the turnk of his car. he flew off backwards onto the street as this stupid kid turned the corner(not stopping at the end of the alley either to slow down?) and he landed right smack onto the back of his head but up just a bit so he was almost standing on his head when he landed kind of thing? he spent the next three weeks in a 'coma' but with only like the very first few days actually hooked up to a vent to help him breathe? the other stages were more just a bit 'there" but he never opened his eyes and when asked a question, his answers made no sense and it would prompt him to actually go wayy back like when he was about 4 years old? he was litterally reliving moments(and asking and answering whoever he had been having the "converstation" with at THAT place and time too? very insane) as his brain was trying to 'right' all the bits of data and place them in more of an order? this still was a 'coma' from what we were told since he was NOT actually making any real true direct contact with anyone but in 'his' own little world still? coma is just very very crazy in how the stages can play out and how long any given person can be stuck in a particular one too?
the one thing about your freinds sudden drop in BS? this actually could have occured AFTER the siezure actually occured? there really is no true way of actually knowing with any 100% certainty just what precedded what since no one was actively checking that BS at the time we went into the actual siezure? do you know what i mean? but despite him being non diabetic, it would have had to have been one hell of an actual BS drop to trigger what actually occured? in most people who have the 'hypoglycemic" tendency, and i am one of them(quick BS crashes at times with NO history of actual diabetes either), the BS will tend to crash with some of us whenever we take in sugar like ealrier in the morning that is not actually followed up with something a bit more substantial within even just a couple hours? i get shakey, sweaty, light headed(feels like i am going to faint) and its very hard to just really 'think' at all normally when this drop occurs. this just does not actually "sound" like it was 'only' a possible drop in BS that is totally responsible for this dramatic type of reaction. tho anything is just indeed highly possible when we are talking about the human body in certain situations, this just does not appear to be as 'likely' as other possible reasons, thats all i am really saying. it would have had to have been pretty extremely high then very suddenly crash to trigger what it did or they think it did anyways.
just given the epilepsy history and what his actual siezure status(status epilepticus for example would be like a 'nonstop' siezure with no breaks in them, just a constant amount of ongpoing siezure activity?) was during this and whether or not he actually caused himself a true brain injury with what just occurs in most siezures with the patient really really just slamming the heck out of back of their heads extremely hard on a floor of some kind(or was this in his bed?) that alone could have really added another pretty traumatic component to the overall picture here. this is what i mean by various different factors also playing a part in what the real true solid Dx/cause of what is just been 'labeled' as his actual condition/status or what casued this to occur to such a huge and very in depth degree in the first place. it could be something to actually do with his siezures to begin with since not all reoccuring seizure activity that people get are all actual plain "epileptic" but could be a symptom of something that is actually more of the underlying reason for siezures to even begin in someone too, ya know?
any real Dx of any condition comes down to what any given doc feels and test results and patients compplaints and or behaviors too. its not always just cut and dry when it comes to espescially the brain. the neuro who i am asssuming here is the one who made his original dx of epilepsy, could have not been aware of other possible conditions that show ongoing siezure activity as an actual 'symptom' and NOT the real condition. so, he was merely 'given' the label of epilepsy? i know its all a bit confusing here in trying to really give you the best answer, but as you can see, there are just sooo many different and very highly individual to your freinds overall situation factors here that telling you anything really solid without more ongoing info as to how his condtion has been 'trending'(initial conditon status thru any and all changes) along this whole time since it occured ,its just extremely difficult given the huge variables involved, ya know what i mean?
i sure do wish i could help you more with this since it is very clear that you care very much about your freind. but like i said above, with very very little hard solid info to actually go on here, espescially what they have found so far with any real testing and his current overall condtion, unfortuently its just a real big toughie here. what i have learned over many years of dealing with some insane off the wall medical nightmares that i just never could have ever even imagined occuring in any of my little family is, sometimes you just have to hand it over and just have faith that what is going to occur is just what is supposed to be. i know its not much, but having faith has brought me thru things i never thought i could even get thru let alone still be here. its the not knowing things right now that i know is really bothering and getting to you the most. is there ANYONE who you know who has a better connection with the family who you could maybe at least get regular updates from? that alone would really help you right now. can he even have visitors? just being up there with his family may glean some better info for yourself. just some suggestions. i do hope he comes out of this okay and your friendship can continue on as its supposed to be. take care worried, FB
