I have grade ii spondylothesis for many years. I have always had some back pain. However, for the past several years I have had nerve pain in my buttocks and down my left leg. It has become very hard for me mentally and physically to get through the work day and spend time with my kiRAB as my back and nerve pain are always bothering me. I am going to a pain management doctor right now, doing PT (second round). He is going to give me a nerve block in a few days.

A few things, has a nerve block helped anyone? Has anyone lived with the nerve pain for years and it went away after PT or other things short of surgery? Has anyone had surgery other than fusion to fix the problem? If so, are they satisifed. I have a desk job and am active in my kiRAB' lives. Going through life with this contined pain will be difficult and the thought of surgery scares me. Please let me know your experiences.

I had a grade 2 spondy at L4. I didn't get better with PT or injections. I had the fusion surgery not long ago. My physical therapist told me since my spondy was unstable and moving they were fighting a losing battle to help with conservative treatments. I had back, buttock, and right legged pain. Not sure how the surgery is going to turn out. I was much better for 3 months after surgery. In fact I was painfree for the first time in a long time. I returned to a very physical job and now find myself back in a great deal of pain. Now the question everyone has asked. Was it worth it? YES. Would I do it over again even knowing the pain is returning? YES. A short time painfree was totally worth it for me. I may wind up having more surgery to correct the damage I have done with my job but it was worth it.

lilac - thanks for sharing your experience. I hope you get well and do not have to go back for another procedure. What did you do at your job that set you off? What is your new pain? Is it as pain as your original? Hope you get well.

The new pain is similar to the old pain but different. It isn't as bad yet as it was before surgery. It's really hard to explain. It is now going down my leg again but instead of straight it turns to the side and tingles. My job is unreal physical, but lately my job has had a lot of bending. So basically I've been bent over for 8-9 hours a day, 5 days a week, for a month.
