Help find the title of a book?

It's a children's book I think I read it in 1998 or earlier, it's set in the future the cover had a mask, it was white, with a simple design of red and black. From what I remember it was about a young man or boy, the people in the book had twins or a companion and they would sleep in the same bed, and everyone wore masks. I think it was about how the boy finally takes off his mask.
Anyway, I hope someone else read it
