Hi this may take a while but please bear with me.
My mother in law had an operation in feb to remove a cyst from her throat, she was told it was benign, she then couldn't spaek, so they operated 4wks later to "remove a polyp". Still couldn't speak, had another op. Saw speech therapist who was shocked at the state of her vocal chords, they are covered in scar tissue. She has today seen another consultant at another hospital, who specialises in laser treatments. He has very bluntly stated that her vocal chords are in the worst ever state he has ever seen. He is going to consult with other surgeons, but said that the only option open to her is a trachoctomy. My MIL has gone from a bright outgoing woman to a complete dispairing mess she is terrified of what will hapen. At no point was she told that scar tissue could develop so bad and result in her losing her voice.
She now can talk in a whisper but has problems sometimes breathing. I am in a difficult situation as I want to rant about this but MIL is scared to.Any advice?
