Help buying a sony PS3?

I have been looking into buying a sony ps3 for a while, but I could use a bit of advice.

First of all, as far as i was aware, the first ps3 available was the 80gb model, followed shortly by the 160gb model. I also have heard about a 40gb model.

Just last year, I believe, they came out with the 120 and 250gb models. These were supposed to be more efficient, slimmer (hence ps3 slim) and more energy efficient. I had been planning on getting a 120gb model, but as I did research, I ran into some confusion. I noticed that the Playstation Move bundles came with a 320gb model, and I saw what may have been a newer 160gb model that was released at the same time. Is this real, or did I just see something wrong?

I've also seen a lot about backwards compatibility. I know the recent models have not been backwards compatible, but what about the 160gb. Was it ever backwards compatible and if so, would I be able to find a new one for sale, or have they been discontinued?

Finally, I would just like to ask for your opinion. Overall, would the 120gb or 160gb be more worth my money? (assuming i can still get the 160gb). I know some of the basic differences between each, but I'm not an expert.

Thank you in advance. Sorry for the length, but if you could answer my questions that would be great. Also, if you bought a ps3 online, could you recommend a good site to get it from? I would really appreciate it, thanks.
