Help am I suffering with an allergy

I hope somebody can help me. I keep getting a stuffy nose, swollen puffy throat which travels down on to the top of my chest, which feels slightly puffy as well and very slightly sore. It is annoying me as it comes and goes when it feels like it. I am finding myself getting anxious which of course is making the problem worse. I feel I need to get a breath from my abdomen. I have 6 pets, 3 dogs and 3 cats which I have had for a nuraber of years. Is it possible for allergies to come on at an older age. Could I be allergic to animal dander. I did notice that I bought a furry blanket for my dogs, and the problem does appear to come on after they have used this blanket. I will be going to the doctors about this problem but was hoping that somebody could help me who suffer similar problems. Thanks.
 
Yes, you can get allergies to anything at any time in your life no matter whether you've ever been allergic before. Try an OCT antihistamine like Zyrtec (cetirizine in Canada - don't know about the UK) and see if it helps. You could try a benedryl at bedtime (they make you sleepy).
 
Thank you for your reply. I will certainly try what you have advised, but will go to doctors first. She is very open and I will tell her what you have suggested.
