Maybe ask a mechanic to lend you his "see snake".http://www.ridgid.com/Tools/SeeSnake-micro Someone in your area will have one.

So I spent the entire evening breaking down the bike...pulled the battery, battery box and fuse panel. That screw is not on the bike. I also tilted the bike, drained the oil again. No screw. However, with 3,600 miles I did notice quite a few metal flakes in the oil. Not thinking I like see that. I also noticed what looked like granules of sand or glass in the oil?????

Anyway, I then added a 1/4 quart of oil, tilted the bike and drained. Nothing. I then opened the drain plug and began filling with oil from the filler hole. Nothing. I ran the magnet as far as I could down the filler hole and up the drain hole...not thinking she is liking me too much with this working over. :-)

Overall, I have filled, tilted back and forth and front and back 3 times...nothing. Maybe the d*mn screw isn't in there or maybe it rattled off the bike during my ride. At this point, I'm just going to run up to Harbor Freight and buy an inspection scope for $120 and see what I can find inside that pan.

I have a dumb question...what gears are in that oil pan/crank case? If a gear did chew the tiny screw up and if any part of it made it through the pump...I'm hoping that maybe the filter caught the debris?

Wow...not really in the mood to destroy a brand new twin cam 96 over a tiny screw!!!

Thanks again all...advise is helpful and appreciated. The jabs are appreciated too as they at least help me find some type of smile during a not so happy time.

Blueman, I am in Kansas City.

Run it! If it takes the motor out (which I highly doubt) you may be able to get the dealer to cover it under warranty (don't tell them about the screw).

No gears in the oil pan...

It is simply a pan with the suction and return hoses attached. Nothing will contact any meshing parts until it reaches the oil pump, but I doubt a screw would be pulled up into the suction hose and into the oul pump. If you haven't found it yet, I'd believe it went elsewhere...

The only thing I have not seen suggested is to flush out the oil tank with kerosene, cheaper than oil, and a recommended procedure on my old 90 FLST. You could literally pour a gallon or two through the tank and out the drain, flushing out anything in there.
